Last month, HR Policy Global members had the opportunity to share information and networking on the most important HR issues in Japan and the UK, respectively hosted by Jones Day in Tokyo and Oracle in London. Our next networking event will take place in Paris on December 13, 2023.
The Tokyo session provided valuable insights into labor law, trade practices, LGBTQ+ laws, and cultural differences in Japan. In London, attendees discussed the future impact of Brexit, with the Financial Times’ Public Policy Editor Peter Foster providing an expert prospective on the issue and potential developments led by the UK’s government.
Tokyo session attendees discussed non-compete agreements, cartels, and restraint of trade provisions in Japan. Additionally, Jones Day partner Yuichiro Mori shared a comprehensive perspective on the new LGBTQ+ laws in Japan and the legal mechanisms available to employees who are facing discrimination.
Changes to employment law in UK. In addition to the Brexit discussion, the group focused on impending employment law changes which will impact employers operating in the United Kingdom. The updates included changes to the UK’s rights to request flexible working arrangements, non-competes, and pay gap reporting.
Upcoming event in Paris. Our next networking event will take place in Paris and will discuss employment law and labor issues facing French companies. This event will be conducted in French.
